Winter turned to spring, and the snow in the yard melted. When I went to the garden, I saw weeds growing on the ground. It was so messy that I couldn't stand it anymore, so I decided to make some renovations. I looked at other people's renovation strategies online and combined them with my own. I chose artificial turf as my preference.
The first step is to clean up the old mulch on the original floor and the weed-proof membrane underneath. After four or five years, many weeds have penetrated the weed-proof membrane, and the grass roots and weed-proof membrane are connected together. I have to sigh, The vitality of these weeds is really strong.
In the second step, after cleaning the mulch and anti-weed film, roughly level the land.
The third step is to cover it with a new anti-weed film.
The fourth step is to lay the gravel. After roughly calculating the area of the back garden, I bought 3 yards of gravel and it cost $300 including delivery. I had no other tools, just a shovel and two buckets. I carried it to the back garden by myself. This is The hardest step of the entire project. I took two or three hours to move every day. In fact, it took half an hour to move and half an hour to rest. It took a week to complete the move.
Step 5: Level the ground. First use a rake to smooth the gravel roughly evenly, and then use a level to level it slowly. I have no experience, but I'm lucky. The boss I work for has experience in garden decoration. He knew that I wanted to do the yard by myself and kept asking me if I wanted help. At first, I thought it was a polite comment, but then I didn't understand and had no choice. I asked the boss to come over and give me some advice. , who would have thought that he actually took time out of his busy schedule to come to my door twice, wearing gloves and work shoes, and taught me while helping me for a few hours. I am really grateful.
The sixth step is to compact the ground. This is also taught by the boss. The boss also borrowed the tools. Water the ground to wet it, and then use this tool (I forgot what it is called, Home Depot sells it for more than 60, and renting it seems to be 24 days a day) to compact the ground. Flat compaction.
The seventh and final step is to lay the artificial lawn. This step is easy. You only need to cut the lawn to size and lay it out, and nail it to the ground with gardening U-shaped nails. The tenants at home take the initiative to help. , two people can do it in two or three hours. Buying lawns was a bit tricky. I saw a discount on lawns on the app, so I drove back and forth across the province for two hours to buy them, saving $200. Then I bought two extra rolls and returned them for $80, which took another two hours. I don't know if it was worth it. However, I passed the casino on the way back and tried my luck in it, and all the expenses for the project were reimbursed.
The total renovation project cost: 300 gravel, 80 weed-proof membrane, 420 lawn, 20 nails, about $800. It lasted for two months on and off. The hard work was indeed hard, but it was quite rewarding to see the garden slowly turn into a small garden in my own hands. I feel satisfied. Now I like to go to the garden when I have time. My life also has a bit of a petty bourgeoisie flavor.
