In Southern California, where the dry season is long and water restrictions are strict, artificial turf is becoming more and more popular as an environmentally friendly and water-efficient alternative. Yes, artificial turf looks great, but how do you buy and install it so that it lasts long and doesn't have to worry about the aftermath? Here, I will share some of my experience.
First of all, product quality is the key. In terms of face weight, PU backed lawn is the best quality, suitable for long-term high-frequency use of the family or sports venues. The white mesh backing has better performance and prevents water from pooling under full water. The grass itself, between 1.5 and 2 inches, is the easiest to maintain.
Next, the terrain is important. For slightly sloping areas, choose a lawn with water holes closer together, and for flat areas, choose flexibly. If there is a risk of flooding, it is recommended to choose a full-sink design.
During the installation process, first check whether the ground is flat and hard, and then pave the border edge, back bottom and turf in order. The most important thing is that the direction of the grass wire should be uniform and the joints should be overlapped and compacted. Make sure there are no fatal gaps that could cause water to pool.
For long-term maintenance, remove fallen leaves every season, keep weeding, and check the bottom regularly to prevent water from accumulating and causing mold. In case of insect infestation, use special insecticide fogging treatment. Use soft brush lightly brush the turf every year to prolong the service life.
